“In the providence of God, governments were intended to be the servants, not the masters of the people. This eternal truth needs to be emphasized and re-emphasized.” Elder Ezra Taft Benson

The Worth of Women

Wow. I find it so sad how SHALLOW, disrespectful, and degrading 'the world' is to women! They are just as much to men too, but for now I'm focused on women.

I just went to the FoxNews.com website and towards the bottom of the page is all the wonderful celebrity gossip. Why is it there? Because it attracts people, sadly. Anyway, I clicked "More Stars Without Makeup" which shows before and after pictures of different female "stars". I am disgusted.

The women with the "worst"-looking before pictures were mocked and picked apart for not looking "glam". I mean GOODNESS GRACIOUS! The entire thing was SOLELY about their looks - whoever was the one writing the short comments was determining these women's entire worth by whether they looked good wearing makeup or not. I actually feel dumber after looking at all 66 pictures... Yes, I admit I looked at each picture!

Now, I'm a huge fan of makeup... I purposely only like to get the camera out if I've put makeup on. I don't like being without makeup, I am THANKFUL for makeup. I believe just about every woman alive can benefit by at least a little bit of it. But GOODNESS gracious, I don't determine my entire worth, self-esteem, potential, and success by it!

This series of four videos called Killing Us Softly is a must-watch for women. It was shown to my entire sociology class in college and it's extremely eye-opening. We're all well aware how women are targeted and portrayed as sex objects, but it's SOOOOO much more than that that we don't even realize.

Disclaimer: I don't recommend men or children watch this as there are some inappropriate pictures of women (women shouldn't either... if you really don't want to, turn off your screen while listening to what she says).

THE WORTH OF WOMEN

Because mothers are essential to God's great plan of happiness, their sacred work is opposed by Satan, who would destroy the family and demean the worth of women. - Elder Russell M. Nelson

Woman is God’s supreme creation. Only after the earth had been formed, after the day had been separated from the night, after the waters had been divided from the land, after vegetation and animal life had been created, and after man had been placed on the earth, was woman created; and only then was the work pronounced complete and good.
Of all the creations of the Almighty, there is none more beautiful, none more inspiring than a lovely daughter of God who walks in virtue with an understanding of why she should do so, who honors and respects her body as a thing sacred and divine, who cultivates her mind and constantly enlarges the horizon of her understanding, who nurtures her spirit with everlasting truth. - President Gordon B. Hinckley in “Our Responsibility to Our Young Women,” Ensign, Sept. 1988, 11.
